This week is Dementia Action Week 2019 #DAW2019 (20th– 26thMay) which unites people, workplaces, schools and communities to take action and improve the lives of people living with dementia.
Our specialist team are passionate about understanding the needs of our disabled and vulnerable clients and providing an inclusive service. As part of this commitment, earlier this year, we tookpart in the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme. This programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia and we are proud to be part of a campaign that has reached over 2.8 million people in England and Wales.
‘Every three minutes, someone in the UK develops dementia and it doesn’t just affect old people. Over a third of people living with dementia feel lonely or have lost touch with their friends following a diagnosis’ says the Alzheimer’s Society. With thousands of people living with dementia facing isolation, the theme for Dementia Action Week 2019 is inclusion.
Philip Warford, Managing Director says ‘It’s extremely important to us as a firm that we provided access to the Dementia Friends information session to the whole team. The information in this programme has been invaluable to all of us and we have already been able to use the hints and tips provided in conversations with our clients.’
If you are interested in becoming a Dementia Friends, you can register to receive the resources and information aimed at helping members of your organisation understand dementia and how it may affect a person here.
